Our history

We can trace the organisations history right back to when it was originally founded in 1925. Originally it was known as the National Federation of Bakery Student Societies (NFBSS) and was later joined by the Institute of British Bakers (IBB) and known as the NFBSS/IBB Alliance. 

The name was changed in 2007 to reflect the changes in Bakery Education and Bakery training, specifically the development of work based training schemes as an alternative to college based courses. Below are the Honorary Life Members of the organisation and past presidents during the years back to 1925.

Life Membership Background

Life membership status should be regarded as a huge honour, which may be awarded to those members who have distinguished themselves within the sphere of the Alliance. Honorary Life Members shall benefit from full membership. Nominations for Honorary Life Membership, which should be made in writing, signed by at least two members of the professional section or recognised societies approved by the executive committee, will be ratified at the Annual General Meeting. Professional members are any non-student, full or honorary life members.
