ABST Student Representatives - Who is representing you?
What is an ABST Student Representative?
Calling all bakery students that are studying on a bakery course during the academic year 2021/22. We are once again looking for student representatives to highlight all of the great work students are doing at your college or university.
Student representatives are basically bakery students who update the ABST on what you have been up to at college or university, whether its sharing pictures of some of the great bakery products you have been making, keeping us up to date with your fundraising efforts, maybe letting us know of a visit you had or went on to see a bakery or ingredients manufacturer.
This year we are also giving you all some great incentives as well. Students that put themselves forward will be rewarded with a number of incentives, including money off conference and the chance to be crowned “ABST Super Rep” at Conference 2022.
What do I have to do and are there any incentives?
The more you do, the more you get so to speak. Check out some of the incentives below and if you are interested then see how you can nominate yourself for the role.
Incentive 1
This incentive is all about going to the ABST meetings so that you can see what is going on with the ABST and also give us your ideas as well on how we could better support students and trainees just like you.
Incentive 2
This incentive is all about going to the ABST meetings so that you can see what is going on with the ABST and also give us your ideas as well on how we could better support students and trainees just like you.
Incentive 3
This incentive is to let everyone in the ABST know what you have been up to at college or university. Highlighting some of the great things you are doing that are related to bakery and also saving a bit of money on the way to conference as well. This could potentially be worth a maximum of £50.00 if you send an update once a month which would be a considerable amount of money towards the conference cost.
Incentive 4
Prize to be awarded to the “Super Rep” that has been most active, sharing and inspiring other bakery students and colleges to share and inspire each other. This will be awarded at Conference 2022 with the prize money being £50.00.
Sound interesting? - What are you waiting for?
If you are really active you could save a massive £70.00 off your conference ticket and be in with a chance to be crowned “ABST Super Rep” and win £50.00 at conference. But it's not just about the money you could save, as you will also be encouraging other students along the way and showing everyone how great your college or university is.
Students that are interested need to ensure that they are committed to attending the council meetings and also sharing stories with the ABST during the year and must also be attending conference 2022. If sounds like something that you would really like to get involved in, then see the instructions below on how to nominate yourself.

Important Information
There are some great incentives this year so we wish you all the best of luck in nominating yourselves and if required during the voting. We look forward to working with you over the next year as well! If you have any questions regarding the process or require any more information, please do get in touch with us at [email protected]
- Self Nomination - Students that would like to put themselves forward for Student Rep at their College or University will need to nominate themselves in the first instance. This can be done on our website below. Nominations will run from Saturday 14th August until Tuesday 05th October 2021. Students can not nominate other students. It has to be self nomination. If your college or university has a Student Bakery Organisation, you must be a member of the Student organisation to put yourself forward.
- Number of student reps -There can only be one student representative from each college or university. Where colleges and universities teach on both FE and HE, there is allowed to be one student representing FE and one student representing HE so a total of two for that college/ university.
- Multiple nominations
- If there is only one nomination that student will automatically become the student rep for the college/university.
- If there are more than one nomination from a college/university, there will be an election. This will be held on the ABST website from Wednesday 06th October until Thursday 07th October 2021. Students from the University/College will need to vote for the person that they want to represent them and the person with the most votes will be selected as student rep for that college/university. This will be completed online on the ABST Website and will be anonymous.
- By Friday 08th October all student reps should have been selected and confirmed.
